SOLAS VGM

Under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), every packed export container must have a Verified Gross Mass (VGM) before it can be loaded on board a vessel.

What is VGM?

VGM is the total weight of the cargo, packaging, dunnage and container tare. It must be verified by weighing the packed container (Method 1) or by weighing all contents and adding tare (Method 2), using calibrated equipment.

Who submits VGM?

The shipper named on the bill of lading is responsible for providing VGM to the carrier in time for the load list cut-off. Late or incorrect VGM can result in containers being rolled or refused at port.

Our role

When we manage your export booking, we will guide you on cut-off times and the format your shipping line requires. If you stuff containers at our warehouse, we can coordinate weighing as part of the process.
